“As a pilot in the same platform, it was very important to me to honor the fallen by spreading the word and donating to the loved ones left behind.”
On July 10, 2017, a USMC KC-130 from a reserve squadron based out of Stewart Air National Guard Base in New York crashed on a routine logistics run from North Carolina to California. The plane suffered a catastrophic incident at 20,000 feet, resulting in killing everyone onboard, including 15 Marines (2 pilots, 7 other crew, 6 Special Operators) and 1 Navy Corpsman.
The incident hit close to home seeing as the plane that went down is just an older model of the plane I fly (the plane that crashed was a KC-130T, I fly the KC-130J). The C-130 community is the smallest community in the Marine Corps with only 3 active and 2 reserve squadrons. It would mean a lot to me and be a worthy donation to contribute to the fallens’ families through the Wingman Foundation.
